Phone Listings
The best resource I have found for looking up phone listings is whitepages.com. Whitepages.com has several very user-friendly search options for looking up phone listings. You can also look up addresses on whitepages.com. If you have someone's phone number or address you can run a reverse search to find more information.
I use the reverse phone listings search if a number comes up on my caller ID that I don't recognize. I plug in the phone number to see if the phone listing is included in whitepages.com's database. I also use the web site every day at work when trying to find current addresses or other contact information for clients. There are several web sites on the Internet right now that are designed to help the user lookup phone listings but I think that whitepages.com is the best.
I have also seen a lot of web sites that claim to be able to find cell phone listings. I have never tried one of these searches so I cannot tell you whether or not they are useful. My inclination is to think that they are not but the majority of phone listings or addresses I search for are residential or commercial listings and would not be running off of a cell phone. I certainly hope that there is no such thing as a web site that offers cell phone listings. One of the reasons I love having a cell phone is that the only people who have access to the number are the people who I give the number too. I would be very disappointed to find out that my cell phone number was easily tracked down.
Like most people I have been aggravated by telemarketers who reach me on my cell phone. When the national do not call list was formed I signed up immediately. I have not had any problems with telemarketers calling my cell phone since that time so I think that my cell phone must be difficult to track down. It seems that landlines are becoming a thing of the past and I believe that one of the reasons this has happened is because most people want to avoid telemarketers although the biggest reason has to be the overall convenience of a cell phone versus a landline.
If you need to find phone listings and are not at a computer, you can still dial 411 to find information. I received an e-mail recently that claimed that there is a number out there that you can call to get the same information for free. This number was 1-800-FREE-411. I have not had an occasion to use this service to track down phone listings yet, so I cannot vouch for its authenticity but it may prove to be a valuable option.
